A veggie steak! Now, this is thew kind of thing that interests me. Nothing when I was a veggie before looked like this. It looked quite promising, yes the colour is different but it looks well thought out. It suggests frying each side for 2.5 minutes which it similar to how I used to like my real steaks so I was excited about this one. I made some spicy rice to go with it and it charred nicely.

It looked appetising enough and when I cut in to it I was pleased with how the texture looked, too.

Fine, so it was still looking steak-like in texture. Not perfect, maybe somewhere between a steak and a real burger. On to tasting. Well, this was GREAT! It has a meaty enough texture and it tasted like meat. It wasn't unlike beef, but I used to get these ostrich fillets from Iceland a few years back and I feel this was more similar to that. It was soft, juicy and held it's form whilst chewing without turning in to a mushy mess. It was £3 from Tesco for 2 steaks so price-wise it's a reasonable alternative. If you are looking for something to fill that meaty void or just looking to try something to encourage you to cut down on your meat intake, try this first. I would have this anyway as I liked the flavour and the texture and there was none of that 'Oh look, a bit of chewy fat that gets caught in my teeth' nonsense. I ate the second steak for my next evening meal and still felt positively about it. This is something I will pick up on the regular and, unless something even better comes along, I see this becoming a regular addition to my diet. So, although I encourage you all to give this a try, please don't do it all at once as I want to buy plenty of these myself.

Thanks for reading,

MLV
